OH Canada1

You want Winter Olympics?? Stay in Cbus!! At 4 a.m. Saturday morning I got up to 6 more inches of fresh wet snow and had to shovel for 45 minutes just get out of the driveway!! Slow forward 6 hours and the pilot told us to look down and see the home of Bill Gates. Man, I never knew there were so many islands and waterways around Seattle and Vancouver! Mostly because every time I have been there it was raining! So we jump on a turbo prop plane to fly into
Vancouver. OMG! There is hardly any snow showing on the mountains and the grass is totally green. The pilot tells us that the Global Climate Change Deniers Party was to have a convention but canceled it to go play golf! Word is that at Cypress Mountain, the helicoptered in snow is melting as fast as they can fly it in. I hear Jimmy Buffett is to throw the green flag to start the Games! Off we head to Whistler via bus. Yes indeed there are people playing golf!!
There are no freeways in Vancouver so you must go through town. There are people all over the downtown area. Everything is in the blue/green colors of the Vancouver Games. Up we go for the 90 miles to Whistler. The view of the Pacific and the surreal islands is fascinating. If you have ever been to the Caribbean or the South Pacific, that is the look. Gorgeous water mountains with the sun setting over the ocean. As we approach Whistler we can see the blue lights that decorate every tree lined street. The coach turns into Whistler Village and all of a sudden the scene changes to highly illuminated police and traffic direction workers.
The areas are cordoned off for security reasons as you might expect. I am thinking to myself that it is way too cold for terrorists, however I am reminded of three years earlier when our ski
group crossed over the border via SUV at the checkpoint where they caught the only terrorist
sneaking into America. During the check in process of identification and authorization I met a man that tells me he the physician in charge of women's skiing. Now that is a tough gig! He swears we will take Lindsey Vonn out for dinner but I don't believe him!! He tells me he is from Alberta and I said I know a guy from Alberta and guess what? OH IO! That gentleman is
Ken Kilroe, father of Chrissy Kilroe. Chrissy is a legendary field hockey player at OSU and now
an assistant coach for the Buckeyes! Many of you know Chrissy and maybe Ken from my football
tailgate. Today was training day. I'll keep those thoughts to myself in hopes of.... Anyway, it was
warm today. Friday is the big day. I think we have at least 4 Buckeyes in the Games. Find them!!! USA USA USA

  2. Well, sounds like you're off & running, Cous'! Crossing my fingers that the snow that's clobbering us, will soon clobber Vancouver! What a bummer!! Can't wait to see some pictures! Have a ball!
